For Immediate Release, Glendale, CA, January 2nd, 2010 'Air Pressure' The Glendale College Art Gallery is pleased to present the exhibition 'Air Pressure,' which brings together work by Los Angeles artists Mara De Luca, Nick Kramer, Kristi Lippire, and Allen Tombello. There will be six artworks in the show - three paintings by Mara DeLuca, and one sculpture from each of the other artists. The bodies of work by these artists are dissimilar, and this show is not meant to highlight relationships between the broader conceptual interests that frame their respective practices. Instead, 'Air Pressure' focuses on works which these artists have used to touch upon themes of disintegration and scale. The image of a heat wave lifting a house off its foundations before a massive explosion blows it away was discussed as a interpretive fulcrum around which the artworks might be held in balance. Mara De Luca's three 65" x 92" paintings have been selected from her 'Technicolor Turner' series, which references cinema, modern painting, and histories of repression and conflict through representations of the sky in tumult. The paintings depict geologic-scaled disruptions of nature within vast skyscapes. Nick Kramer will exhibit an 8 foot tall sculpture made out of a found fragment of damaged metal railing and two custom welded and painted bases that hold the railing perpendicular to the ground. Kristi Lippire will show a 10 foot tall paper, concrete, and stainless steel sculpture she made as her own tombstone - a cluster of helium filled, dirt colored ballons floating on a string. Allen Tombello will exhibit a large architectural-organic sculpture. The show will run from January 16th - February 20th, 2010, and an opening reception will be held on January 16th from 6-9pm.
