'NOTHING UP THE SLEEVE': AUGUST 26th - SEPTEMBER 30, 2006

August 21st, 2006 (Glendale, CA) - FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Hunger for life is expressed as a pursuit of the exotic moment, not through tourism or some other self-indulgence, but through the reordering of the supposedly mundane. The work of art inclines us to pause, to wonder what material or what thing is before us, and share its presence. Interruption, as unusual beauty, relaxes and activates the mind.

'Nothing Up The Sleeve' as a title refers not to trickery, rather to a magic-in-earnest in which everyday materials take on eccentric properties, emitting spectra uncommon to themselves.

The exhibition is comprised of 9 sculptures by 5 artists. A 1-page catalog/poster featuring 5 short essays by artists not in the show on artists in the show has been produced, and will be available for free in the gallery. Artists writing for the catalog are as follows: Lisa Lapinski on Nicolau Vergueiro, Alice Konitz on Anna Sew Hoy, Donald Morgan on Florian Morlat, Thomas Houseago on Jeff Ono, Evan Holloway on Samara Caughey.

The exhibition is on view from August 26th - September 30, 2006. Admittance to the gallery is free and all are welcome to the opening reception, which will take place on September 2nd, 2006, from 4-7pm.
